5. Two states appear to take divergent paths on gun rights

In two states, voters had the opportunity to weigh in on the level of access to guns residents can have. In Iowa, nearly two-thirds of voters (65.1%) approved adding language explicitly establishing a right to keep and bear arms to the state constitution. 

In Oregon, a measure that would increase the requirements for gun ownership appears headed for passage with 98% of the vote reporting. Slightly more than half (50.8%) of voters supported Measure 114, which would require those seeking to buy a gun to secure a permit, undergo a background check and training in addition to prohibiting the sale of magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds.
