Biden faces bipartisan pushback over threat to cut off weapons for Israel

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has consistently expressed support for Israel, declaring in a November tweet that he intends to keep the photos of Israeli hostages on his office wall until they are all "safely returned home." 

On Wednesday, Fetterman shared a photo of the headline about Biden's promise to withhold an arms shipment to Israel.

"Hard disagree and deeply disappointing," the Democratic senator wrote. 

Fetterman told USA Today in an interview published Wednesday that he believes the situation in Gaza is "heartbreaking," adding that the responsibility lies with Hamas to end the war and release the hostages. 

"They started this," Fetterman said, referring to the terror group's Oct. 7 attack. "They have designed this to maximize the kinds of destruction and death. They hide behind places like hospitals and civilians and schools and refugee camps. That's how it's been designed."
