Aaron Leeks Asks Michelle Obama to Marine Ball
Michelle Obama could be accompanying one lucky and bold U.S. serviceman to the 2012 Marine Corps Ball.
Lance Cpl. Aaron Leeks of Frederick, Md. bravely asked the First Lady to accompany him to next year’s ball at a Friday “Toys for Tots” event at the Washington D.C. military base, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
“She said, ‘yes.’ She’d love to go with me,” Leeks told ABCNews.com

Leeks said that after asking the First Lady to be his date to the annual ball his friends jokingly asked him, “Did you just ask your boss’s boss’s boss’s wife out?”
Mrs. Obama was surprised by the unexpected invitation, but Leeks said that she happily accepted the invite.“I knew how supportive the first lady is of the family structure, in general, and especially military families,” Leeks told the news agency.
Although Mrs. Obama accepted the Marine Corps Ball invitation from Leeks, the 20-year-old Marine will need to wait for a White House confirmation before he can boast that the First Lady is indeed his future date.
“The first lady’s commitment to military families is very strong, indeed,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters at a press conference, adding that it was likely the first time that President Obama heard of his wife’s invitation.
Carney said that he could not confirm that Mrs. Obama will definitely attend the event but added, “I’m sure she was flattered by the invitation.”
Leeks is scheduled to make his first trip to Afghanistan this coming year. He has a fiance, which is also serves the U.S. as a marine and is stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Asking prominent people to the Marine Corps Ball has become a popular cultural phenomenon. This year several celebrities attended the events including Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.
