Amazon Kindle Tablet Release Date: Specs to Include 2-Finger Multi-Touch Display?

Various reports are providing information about the likely specifications and technology that will be featured in Amazon's highly anticipated Android Kindle Tablet.

According to reports, the upcoming Kindle tablet will feature a full-color 7-inch touch screen, two-finger multi-touch display, 6GB of storage, 10hrs battery life and a rubber casing on its back section. It will run on Android V2.2 and its older software editions, along with having access to Wi-Fi. However, the tablet will not feature a front-facing camera. No e-ink will be on display for the tablet, either.

Amazon's many content services are also expected to come with the new Kindle tablet. Those services include Amazon’s Cloud player, Amazon’s Instant Video Player and Amazon’s Android appstore.

News surfaced this weekend of the currently unused code in Amazon’s “manage your Kindle” page being spotted by The Digital Reader. The code is said to be making reference to “Pdocs_Archival_Support”, which implies that Cloud Drive access could be coming to the tablet. Code references to “Prime ebooks” have also come to light, which gives some insight into the rumors surrounding an ebook subscription service.

Even though Google is said to have had zero input on Amazon's next Kindle tablet, reports seem to indicate that the cloud services are similar to Google’s future plans for cloud saving.

Amazon's new tablet is said to be a huge competitor to Apple's already successful iPad. The official announcement of the new model is said to be happening at Amazon's media event, planned for Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The company has already released its previous line of portable e-book readers: the Kindle, the Kindle 2, Kindle DX, and Kindle 3. The new Kindle tablet is rumored to be releasing sometime in November. Plans for a 10-inch version with 3G capability are said to be in talks for a release next year. The price may come out to $250.
