She has guest-starred on a number of sitcoms since “Golden Girls,” including “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Ally Mcbeal,” and “That ‘70s Show.” White has won seven Emmy Awards, been inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, and received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2009.

White now plays the role of Elka Ostrovsky on “Hot in Cleveland,” and won a SAG Award in 2011 for her performance. After a lengthy campaign on Facebook, White hosted “Saturday Night Live” on May 8, 2010, and garnered the show’s highest ratings since 2008.

White has written several books, including If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t) which broke the top 10 on The New York Times Best Sellers list. Her new book, Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo debuted on Nov. 21 and tells stories of White’s greatest love: animals.

She has been a life-long advocate for animals, serving on the Los Angeles Zoo Commission and the Board of Directors for the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association. White has been a member of other organizations such as Actors & Others for Animals and was the host of “The Pet Set.”

In 2010, White received the honor of being made an honorary Forest Ranger by the United States’ Forest Service. She had previously told an interviewer that her dream job was being a Forest Ranger.
