Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, says 2016 comes with a feeling of "the encroaching darkness of evil that is like a heavy moral and spiritual fog."

"I have been repeatedly warned in my spirit that the enemy is advancing," wrote 67-year-old Graham Lotz, founder of AnGeL Ministries, in a post on her blog.

Citing terrorist strikes in Paris, Colorado Springs and San Bernardino as well as "polarization within political parties, corruption at the highest levels of government, name-calling of opponents, character assassination of those who disagree, lies spun as truth, brutality covered up, the economy propped-up," she said she feels compelled to lead God's people in a desperate prayer for help "before we plunge past the point of no return into the abyss of God's judgment."

She quoted Isaiah 60:1-2, "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you."

She added: "We no longer trust our government, our leaders, our bankers, our police officers, our newspapers, our business partners, our investors, our neighbors … even our religious leaders."

Graham-Lotz explained that she's been meditating on 2 Chronicles 20 in which Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, was warned that a vast army was coming against him. What did Jehoshaphat do? The following verse says he led God's people in a prayer that was a desperate heart's cry for help, she wrote.

The glory is that God answered Jehoshaphat's prayer by reassuring him, she added, quoting 2 Chronicles 20:15-17: "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's. … You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you. … Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged … the Lord will be with you."

"What is the position we are to take up?" she asked, suggesting it's a position "on our knees as we humble ourselves, seek God's face, repent of our sin, and intercede for our nation."

"Then having done all, we stand firm in our faith that God has heard and will answer our prayer," she concluded.

Here are excerpts from a pre-prayer for 2016 she posted on her blog:

Did we not establish our nation as one under God? Have we not pledged, 'In God We Trust'? But now we find ourselves constantly bombarded with the shrill voices of those who demand we distance ourselves from You; that You are just one of many gods, if You are a god at all; that we cannot risk offending each other by calling on Your name. We hear the enemy insinuating that You are 'not fixing this' because You can't fix this. Our faith is being assaulted.

We are told that we can worship You in our own churches, but we cannot bring You into the marketplace or the workplace; into the State House or the school house; onto the battlefield or the football field; into the courtroom or the back room or the bedroom. As though the God of gods can be contained, boxed in, restricted, bound, hidden. …

Equip us as we put on the full armor of God so that we can stand against the devil's schemes…so that when the day of evil comes, we may be able to stand our ground…taking up the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God…and pray. With this in mind, we remain self-controlled and alert while we keep on praying until we prevail in prayer. And we keep on watching expectantly. Is 2016 the year of Your return? We hope so! Come Lord Jesus.
