'Bones' Season 11 Spoilers and Release Date: Hodgins-Angela Team to Face Struggles

The midseason finale of "Bones" season 11 ended with what could be one of the most shocking scenes in the history of the show as an all-time fan-favorite went down.

Before going on vacation, the series offered a shocking reveal about Hodgins (TJ Thyne). Aubrey (John Boyd) and Hodgins unfortunately became victims of a bombing, with Aubrey recovering after going through surgery. However, fate seemed to turn its back on Hodgins as the well-loved character was severely injured.

Fans were heartbroken when the bomb killed several police officers; however, the tear-jerking moment was when the team discovered that Hodgins will be paralyzed for the rest of his life, as a result of his injuries from the explosion.

In an interview with TV Line, co-showrunner John Collier explained why the team decided to take Hodgins to a long and difficult ride. The executive said the road to recovery might be very, very frustrating for Hodgins, and if he ever gets well, it might take a very long time.

However, he noted that the story line is not only looking to put Hodgins to the test but will also challenge his relationship with Angela (Michaela Conlin). "This isn't just about Hodgins. This is about Hodgins and Angela as a couple. We really want to test their relationship..."

As the show went on and fans expressed their admiration and love for Hodgins, the team eventually came to realize that putting Hodgins on a stage where fans don't really want him to be in will actually play a good role in further strengthening his relationship with Angela.

Collier's statements mean that Angela will be faced with the struggle of helping Hodgins go through his daily routine, as well as accepting that her partner may never get back to his feet ever again.

Meanwhile, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) will be faced with another serial killer. The couple will be faced with what Collier refers to as "an external force."

It is unclear when part 2 of season 11 will resume, but Collier hinted that fans should prep their small screens for the series to come back in March or April of 2016.
