Carrie Underwood will open NFL Super Bowl XLIX with a special rendition of the "Sunday Night Football" theme song entitled "Waiting All Day for a Super Bowl Fight."

The distinctive take on the song "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" will lead into the Super Bowl match between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots on Sunday, Feb. 1. It comes as no surprise that Underwood is taking on opening duties during NBC's Super Bowl broadcast; the Grammy Award-winner has performed the "Sunday Night Football" theme song for the past two seasons, and it is expected she will be back for a third season later this year.

"I'm so honored to again be a part of the Super Bowl, this time joining NBC Sports in helping kick everything off," Underwood said in a statement, according to Taste of Country. "I can't wait to watch the game."

"Waiting All Day for a Super Bowl Fight" will feature lyrics customized for the game between the Seahawks and the Patriots. Also, Underwood's performance will feature a special set design and elements not yet seen during the singer's previous openings. As usual, the "Sunday Night Football" theme song will be sung to the melody of Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You."

Back in 2013, Underwood replaced Faith Hill on the opening theme song for "Sunday Night Football." Hill had performed "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" for seven seasons before announcing her departure. Soon after, NBC tapped Underwood for the role.

"For me, it just always seemed like something that would be fun to do," the singer said at the time, according to Billboard. "To watch Faith do it week after week, to see that hype for the game, it's something that's so cool."

Super Bowl XLIX will broadcast from Glendale, Arizona, beginning on NBC at 12 p.m. ET. However, the game begins at 6:30 p.m. ET.
