Christian Groups to Help Build Churches, Clinic in Sudan
While Sudan continues to suffer from civil strife, which many have described as genocide of ethnic Africans, Christian groups and figures have said that they will build clinics and churches in Sudan.
The Rev. Franklin Graham, son of renowned evangelist Billy Graham and president of Samaritan’s Purse, plans to rebuild hundreds of destroyed churches according to The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Graham said he wants to rebuild every church burned by the Sudanese government or its militia. Currently, he has counted 226 destroyed churches and has completed or in the process of building 34. The rebuilding effort is expected to cost $5 million.

“It’s the teaching of Islam that is not tolerant of any other faith,” said Graham, who is known to be outspoken on Muslim extremists, according to AP. “It’s world domination. When they dominate an area, they’ll let other belief systems exist, but they’ll persecute them so that (people) convert to Islam and there’s total domination. Once you’re in Islam you can’t get out it. If you leave you have to be killed.”
Meanwhile, Operation Blessing and partner Humedica International will expand their medical and educational operations to reach 10,000 people in Al Salaam refugee camp in Darfur, Sudan, reported OB last week. The groups’ immediate goals are to build a permanent medical clinic, hire a medical staff and obtain a mobile medical unit to reach those in the surrounding areas.
Other Christian groups are helping with food aid including U.K.-based Barnabas Fund which has provided food aid to 100 Christian families in the Darfur region since December 2004.
Graham, who will speak in Raleigh on Tuesday at a fundraiser for Samaritan’s Purse’s work in Sudan, said “As a minister, I love the Muslim people. I see what’s done in the name of Islam and think it’s my responsibility to speak out. I think God loves them as equally as he loves me. I think he wants them to know the truth.”
