Colin Kapernick Talks God Determining Super Bowl Outcome
Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers quarterback who is gearing up for his first Super Bowl appearance, is not afraid to admit that God has a part to play in his upcoming championship game.
Kaepernick, 25, will be the fourth quarterback in NFL history to start in a Super Bowl game during his second NFL season. When speaking to the press during media day on Tuesday, Kaepernick brought up a subject that NFL fans have been no stranger to- his faith.
The Christian QB bears a tattoo of Psalm 18:39 on his throwing shoulder that reads, "You arm me with strength for battle." He the press that his faith has prepared him for the pressure of the competition that he is gearing up for on Sunday.

"Just because you're in a situation you haven't been in before doesn't mean you have to feel pressure from it," Kaepernick said during the Super Bowl media day. "[God] is always someone I lean on. My faith is something that always keeps my feet on the ground and makes me level-headed."
While 27 percent of Americans believe God will play a role in the Super Bowl's outcome, according to a study released Tuesday by the Public Religion Research Institute, Kaepernick gave his opinion on the matter.
"I think God watches over everybody," Kaepernick said in the press conference. "I don't think he's cheering for one team or another. I think he's helping everybody, just trying to keep everybody safe. He has a plan for everyone."
Kaepernick has been vocal about his faith throughout his short NFL career, and spoke about using his career to glorify God at the Summit Christian Church in Sparks, Nevada last year.
"I don't think most people look at football players as what they're doing out here is trying to glorify the Lord," Kaepernick said in a Sparks Tribune report. "I think a lot of people think of it as oh it's a game, let's go win. Ultimately, that's your goal, that's what you want to do, but you also want to glorify the Lord on your way to doing that."
