'Duck Dynasty' Ratings Slip in Fifth Episode But Maintain High Wednesday Night Spot
Warning: Spoilers
"Duck Dynasty's" ratings slipped again in its fifth episode of season five this past Wednesday, but the A&E reality show still maintains a top spot for all Wednesday night cable shows.
The Feb. 5 episode, titled "Burger Commander," drew a viewership of 6.5 million when it aired in its 10 p.m. spot. In the previous week, the reality show drew 7.49 million viewers.
This week, the reality show scored a Nielsen rating of 2.5 with adults ages 18 to 49, compared to last week's stronger scoring of 3.0 among the same age group.
In spite of this past week's slip, the show, which follows the lives of the Robertson family in West Monroe, La., managed to still hold the top spot on Wednesday evening for adults 18 to 49, trailed only by A&E's new reality show "Wahlburgers."
On Wednesday night's episode of "Duck Dynasty," brothers Jase and Willie got into a debate on who makes the best burgers, and Uncle Si agreed to judge a burger-making competition between the two combative siblings, although he made it clear that he thinks Miss Kay and Grandpa Phil's burgers are truly the best in town.
"As an older brother, Jase has always acted like he's better at everything," Willie complained to the camera. "One time he even told me he was better at flipping channels. But this time Jase has bitten off more than he can chew."
Jase criticized Willie's burger-making abilities, saying, "The whole town? You don't make the best burger in the family!" Jase went on to describe himself as the "redneck Emeril Lagasse."
"I make better burgers than you," Willie responded before the cooking competition began.
The two use an outside grill to make their meals for Uncle Si and friends Godwin and Martin. Ultimately, after trying the two burgers, all three judges agreed that Willie and Jase both lost the burger-making competition.
Meanwhile, Jep was busy trying to collect newspapers to help with his wife Jessica's decoupage project, but in the meantime got roped into helping his father Phil and Miss Kay dispose of old junk, including piles of old paper and other unnecessary items piled up in Phil's shed.
The fifth episode ended with Willie and Jase buying burgers from their favorite restaurant, and the entire family gathering around Jessica's newly decorated table to indulge in the fast food. "In the business world, the end result tends to be all that matters," Willie said at the conclusion of the episode. "A product can be made of the best parts but turn out like crap in the end like mine and Jase's burgers. But in the family world, what matter's the most ain't the end result."
