Emily Maynard, Jef Holm Visit Ghana on 'Life-Changing' Trip

She's no longer the "Bachelorette," but that hasn't stopped Emily Maynard from continuing to use her fame. She, along with new fiancé Jef Holm, took a "life-changing" trip to Ghana to help deliver water and toys to citizens.

The pair left last week with colleagues from Holm's organization, People Water. They have documented their adventures in Africa via Twitter and hope to bring even more awareness of the needs of Guamanians.

"I've had so many life changing experiences here in Ghana," Maynard tweeted.

People Water helped open two water wells that were desperately needed in the region. The organization helps purify water in the area and for every bottle sold elsewhere in the world, the same amount is donated to those in need. Maynard decided to travel to Ghana and bring much-needed energy to the people.

"In their first weeks together, Jef and Emily will be traveling to Ghana to visit the villages where People Water's two most recent wells are currently providing clean, safe water to the nearby people. We are so excited for Emily to be involved in People Water's mission. She's wanted to participate in such a trip for a long time, so we can't wait to show her the huge impact our projects are making," read a statement on the People Water website.

Holm is one of the founders of People Water and talked passionately about it during his time on the "Bachelorette." At the end of the season, Holm proposed to Maynard and the two are adapting to life together. It's a bigger change for Holm, who will now be the stepfather to Maynard's young daughter, Ricki.

The couple plans to live in North Carolina, where Maynard and Ricki already live, though Holm has said he will be getting his own place at first.

"I'm gonna get a separate place there and we're just going to combine our lives, and I'm going to hang out with Ricki all day and become a carpool dad," he told Good Morning America.

"I think ours is going to work because we really have become immediate best friends … it's different than any relationship I've been in, so hopefully the outcome will be different, too," Maynard added.
