The Christian and Missionary Alliance, a denomination founded in 1881 and known for its strong emphasis on evangelism and mission work, recently decided to allow female pastors.

At the CMA General Council held in Spokane, Washington, earlier this month, delegates voted to update the language of the denomination’s Statement of Faith.

This included allowing the title of “ordained” to include both male and female official workers, while previously, women workers could only be considered “consecrated” for church work.

“Official workers may also carry the title of “pastor” or “reverend” for specific ministry roles at the discretion of local church leadership,” explained the CMA in a statement.
