Fox Chicago Anchor Angers Parents by Claiming Santa Does Not Exist

Fox Chicago News Anchor, Robin Robinson angered parents when she declared on her nightly newscast that people should stop teaching kids that Santa Claus exists.

“Stop trying to convince your kids that Santa is Santa,” she said to her co-anchor Bob Sirott on her program Tuesday night. “That’s why they have these high expectations. They know you can’t afford it, so what do they do? Just ask some man in a red suit.”

She continued the diatribe stating that "Santa is a symbol of the generosity of the season. You go sit on his lap and we'll take a picture… but he's not coming down the chimney, he's not eating those cookies, he's not bringing you anything."

Sirott responded, “Hey, Ebenezer, what’s with you?”

Immediately, angry parents took to phones and social networking sites scolding Robinson. The next day, Robinson read the angry Facebook comments on a segment called “The Talker” and repeatedly apologized. She said she did not think children would still be up at 9 p.m. when the show aired.

“It was careless and callous to say…what I said, in what could’ve been mixed company,” said Robinson. “So many kids don’t get to be children, that for those who do get to live the wonder and magic of Christmas, I would never spoil it intentionally. So I sincerely apologize.”

Robinson even took to the sidewalks, interviewing and confessing what she said with contrition to passersby.

St. Nicholas was well-known during the third century, and became famous for giving out gifts to children.

Do you think Robinson was wrong to say that Santa doesn’t exist? Should Christians stop teaching their children about Santa Claus?
