Gaddafi Dead: DNA Tests Reveal He Wore a Wig (PHOTO)

Recent reports have indicated that Gaddafi wore a hairpiece at the time of his death.

The toupee was discovered after his dead body arrived at the hospital and officials tried to confirm his identity by testing a hair sample.

The slain ex-leader had eccentric and elaborate taste, and was rumored to have undergone plastic surgery. A Brazilian surgeon claimed Gaddafi had sought plastic surgery because “he did not want the young people of his nation to see him as an old man.”

The former Libyan leader was killed while thousands of Gaddafi revolutionary fighters overran his loyalist stronghold in a 90-minute siege.

Gaddafi was indicted for crimes against humanity by The Hague in June 2011, and was on his way to an appointment about upcoming elections in Libya when he met his demise.

Confirmation of the former leader’s death came after many conflicting reports about the attack in Sirte, which served as Gaddafi’s last refuge about 280 miles east of Tripoli. At first, it was unknown whether the 69-year-old was killed by a NATO airstrike or by Libyan revolutionaries who caught him trying to flee the city.

According to Libyan Information Minister Mahmoud Shammam, Gaddafi was riding in a convoy when it came under fire. And news reports indicated that he had been captured or wounded.

The Libyan television station Al-Ahrar reported Thursday that revolutionary fighters had finally seized Sirte and in the process captured the long sought after Gaddafi.

Furthermore, a National Transitional Council official, Abdel Majid Mledgta, told Reuters that the former leader was captured and wounded in both legs early Thursday morning.

The official said, “He was also hit in his head. There was a lot of firing against his group and he died.”

A picture taken on a cell phone has been released by the AFP, which showed a dead body that resembled the former ruler.

Following Gaddafi’s death, Libyans took to the streets in exuberant celebration. The beginnings of a new government are underway, and the Transitional National Council formed shortly after the Libyan revolt.
