'Game of Thrones' News: EP Discusses Original Pilot
Avid fans of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones" have been wondering about the unreleased pilot of the series.
It was revealed that the series "Game of Thrones" had a whole different pilot from the one that aired on HBO. The pilot was not well-received by fans, especially since it featured a whole different set of cast members.
With that, the producers of the series recently shared some details about the pilot on a podcast called "Scriptnote." D.B. Weiss and David Benioff opened up about the pilot and how it shaped the series. It was revealed that they were also unhappy with how it turned out.

Weiss stated that when they showed it to Craig Mazin, even they had a hard time watching others watch it. After showing it, Mazin told them that they had a massive problem at hand.
With that, Benioff stated, "I was taking notes, and I had this yellow legal pad, and I just remembered writing in all caps, 'MASSIVE PROBLEM,' and it's all I could think about the rest of the night... [Mazin] didn't really have any great ideas except that he said 'change everything.'"
With that, it was revealed that 92 percent of the pilot was reshot by director Timothy Van Patten. In addition, it was stated that they were forced to make big cuts from the scenes. The changes then were able to save the show from becoming a flop.
According to the podcast, Mazin stated, "I very specifically remember walking out and I said to [Weiss and Benioff], "That is the biggest rescue in Hollywood history." Because it wasn't just that [they] had saved something bad and turned it really good. You had saved a complete piece of sh-- and turned it into something brilliant."
"Game of Thrones" season 6 is expected to air this April.
