Gamecube Controllers Now Work With The Nintendo Switch
Gamecube controllers can now be used with the Nintendo Switch following its 4.0.0 update. This is just one of the many unmentioned additions to the system along with support for USB headphones.
Twitter user Master Mewking was among the first to discover the new controller support. Using Nintendo's old Wii U adapter for "Super Smash Bros.," Switch owners can dig up their old controller and play games on the hybrid console.

However, it's not as simple as plugging in the controller as many users reported that it takes multiple attempts to pair a pad. This could be the reason why Nintendo did not officially announce the feature as it is probably still being worked on.
The process is fairly simple, on paper that is. First off, owners need to make sure their Switch is set to accept wired controllers. Then plug the adapter in, plug the controller in, choose to pair controllers, then press L and R. Up to four GameCube controllers can be used simultaneously in this way, barring any issues of course.
All Nintendo Switch games appear to be compatible with GameCube controllers, although there is a little hiccup - they won't be able to use any ZL commands or the Home button. There's also the fact that due to the differences between the Joy-Cons, some features will definitely be inaccessible with the Gamecube controllers. But for those wanting to have a taste of the good old days, a little bit of hassle will probably not be enough to deter them from trying this hidden feature out.
There have been rumors about a Gamecube virtual console which could be the reason why the feature was secretly added in the first place. Of course, this is only just a rumor and the feature is probably just Nintendo showing a bit of love to its old hardware.
Whatever the case, it is nice to give Gamecube owners a reason to dust off those old controllers and play Nintendo Switch games with that all too familiar feel.
