Gay Activist Accused of 'Double Standards' for Online Bullying of Rick Santorum

Dan Savage Describes Santorum as 'Fecal Matter...the Bi-Product of Anal Sex'

In an open letter to activist Dan Savage, the president of “Americans For Truth About Homosexuality” has asked Savage to remove his website Santorum.com.

On Santorum.com, gay activist Dan Savage defines Santorum as such:

“Santorum (san-TOR-um): n. 1. The frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.”

The site is loaded with anti-Rick Santorum posts including “Santorum’s most outrageous Campaign Moments,” pictures of Santorum in what looks to be feces, and abusively calling him a “HomoHater.”

Ironically, Savage owns and licenses the “It Gets Better Campaign,” where celebrities and bullied homosexual youth often post videos of themselves explaining their experience with bullying and advising others that “it gets better.”

On the opening page of Itgetsbetter.org, there is a pledge which viewers are asked to take reading:

“Everyone deserves to be respected for who they are. I pledge to spread this message to my friends, family and neighbors. I'll speak up against hate and intolerance whenever I see it, at school and at work. I'll provide hope for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and other bullied teens by letting them know that ‘It Gets Better.’”

Santorum.com currently has over 53,000 likes and itgetsbetter.org has over 230,000 likes.

But Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) is not one of Savage’s fans.

“It’s kind of irritating,” Labarbera said in an interview with The Christian Post regarding the double standards between liberals and conservatives. He says much of the mainstream media is acting as a protector of the homosexual agenda. He said, “If this were said about a liberal democrat, the reaction would be completely different.”

To LaBarbera’s, Savage is inexcusably diabolical with his activism. He cites the 2000 Gary Bauer scandal. In 2000, Dan Savage posed as a supporter of Conservative Republican Gary Bauer during his presidential campaign and tried to give Bauer a cold by sneezing and licking items which Bauer may come in contact with.

In his open letter, LaBarbera condemns Savage’s vile language against Catholic Republican Santorum on the ground that he is perpetuating the same bullying his campaign fights so adamantly against.

“…your "It Gets Better" video campaign to help kids overcome bullying in their teen years has gained international attention. Yet bizarrely, with apparent ends-justifies-the-means rationale, you yourself have employed heinous bullying methods to malign Mr. Santorum,” LaBarbera states in his letter.

AFTAH has condemned, along with most mainstream Christian organizations, the controversial group, Westboro Baptist Church, which conducts protests across the country declaring, “God hates gays,” calling their form of activism foolish.

“We’ve condemned all bullying,” LaBarbera says. “It is wrong to bully gays as well as Christians for family values.” Although AFTAH cannot support the “It Gets Better Project” because it promotes homosexuality, LaBarbera says bullying is wrong on either side yet it is accepted when underhanded attacks come from the liberal side. He says there needs to be some “semblance of fairness.”

“God Hates gays? Come on,” he said. But he believes the hate on both sides needs to be abolished.

LaBarbera said he has reached out to Dan Savage on Twitter but he has yet to respond.
