The Oscar-winning actress married Coldplay's lead singer in 2003, and the 10-year marriage has not always been easy.

"It's hard being married. You go through great times, and you go through terrible times," said Paltrow speaking to Glamour's U.K. magazine. "We're the same as any couple."

Known for having had a close relationship with her late father, the actress recounted asking his advice.

"I asked my dad once, 'How did you and Mum stay married for 33 years?' And he said, 'Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time.' And I think that's what happens," explained Paltrow.

The actress' mother, Blythe Danner, is also an actress and is well known for her role in the film "Meet the Fockers."

As for her own marriage, Paltrow said that she and her husband are "good friends."

"We laugh, we're good friends, we like to do the same stuff," said the actress.

Meanwhile, Paltrow and her family live in Martin's native London, where the "Emma" star had to adjust her lifestyle.

"I love London- it's my adopted home," Paltrow told Glamour magazine. "Being an American woman living in Britain, there are things I've had to catch up on, though. Chris had to explain [the British children's program] Blue Peter to me!"

Paltrow's film credits include "Seven," "Shakespeare in Love," and "The Royal Tenenbaums," among many others.

In addition to acting, Paltrow owns the lifestyle company Goop.com and is the author of two cookbooks.
