iOS 5.0.1 Update: Hackers' Jailbreak Available Just Days After Update's Release
Just days after the new iOS 5.0.1 update was released for Apple mobile devices, hackers said they were able to jailbreak the firmware.
However, technology industry insiders claim the average consumer should take caution when attempting to implement the jailbreak. This is due to the current situation that hinders those who have the update from removing the jailbreak, should they choose to, and returning to iOS 5.0 if the jailbreak does not properly perform.
There is also concern because an untethered jailbreak for the iOS 5.0.1 still does not exist.

The new jailbreak was developed by website JailbreakiPhone4S. It is available for download at the website for $19.99. However, the developers are offering customers complimentary upgrades.
JailbreakiPhone4S provided iPhone unlock and jailbreak solutions since the release of the iPhone 2G in June 2007. They received over 1 million downloads since the initial launch, more than any other developer website.
Well-known iOS hacker MuscleNerd, recommended jailbreakers and unlockers “avoid today's 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading to 5.0 is developed” due to Apple’s recent ability to render any jailbreak useless.
One good advantage of the software, should it be performed correctly, is that the jail-breaking and unlocking process is completely reversible and there will be no evidence that the iPhone was jail-broken and unlocked, should a customer ever need to return the iPhone for repair.
However, if a customer is not familiar with the process, one should take caution because Apple might discover tampering. If that occurs, any device warrantees are immediately null-in-void.
It is worth noting the jailbreak will not work with any dual-core devices, such as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
According to BigBoss, a semi-tethered jailbreak patch partially solves the problem of users not being able to access all components of their devices. It is also verified to work with 5.0.1 SemiTether that allows a device to reboot without being plugged in with limited functionality.
