iPhone 5 Release Date: Apple Confirms Redesigned iPhone for 2012

Apple was rumored to release a redesigned iPhone 5 sometime this year, but the technology company launched the iPhone 4S instead.

The iPhone 4S resembles the iPhone 4 in almost every way except that it is faster and includes Siri, the artificial intelligence navigation system that performs voice-commanded tasks.

It seems that a redesigned iPhone is still in Apple’s plans, but customers will not see it until 2012.

DigiTimes, a technology website, recently reported that Apple is planning to make many changes to most of its popular products.

“Apple plans to completely overhaul its product lineups, including iPad, iMac, iPhone and MacBook Air, in 2012 and is expected to finalize order volumes for key parts and components for the next generation iPad in December, according to sources in the upstream supply chain,” said DigiTimes.

Apple is looking to implement changes onto other products, such as the iPad by releasing the iPad 3.

“Inventory of key part and components for the next-generation iPads will be sufficient enough for the production of two million units by year-end 2011,” DigiTimes added.

DigiTimes’ sources point out that Apple has asked manufacturers to develop flat panel modules and LED light bars for two iPad prototypes, codenamed J1 and J2. Recent rumors have stated that Apple is planning to release an iPad 3 and an iPad Mini sometime in 2012.

The rumored iPad Mini and new iPhone 5 bear a striking resemblance and sport a teardrop shape.

Apple has not officially confirmed one of these devices at this time, but the company usually launches a new version of these items at least once a year.
