iPhone 5 Release Date: Apple to Open Up Private Campus for Special Oct. 4 Unveiling

While little else is known about Apple's big conference on October 4, during which it is expected that the iPhone 5 will be unveiled, sources now say that the event will take place on Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California.

All Things D reports that sources close to the company have divulged that instead of being hosted at Apple's usual unveiling venues, such as Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Moscone Center, the October 4 conference will be held at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium.

Several sources speculate that the move could be due to the YBCA already being booked for the OracleWorld conference. Or that it could be a special gesture by new Apple CEO Tim Cook. The unveiling will be his first media event as CEO.

It is also noted that the public has never before seen Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium. All Things D suggest that Apple may be aiming for a more intimate feel for this event due to the fact that the auditorium is considerably smaller than the company's usual media venues.

Rumors continue to circle around what will be revealed at the conference.

Many expect that the date of the iPhone 5 debut will finally be made public. Thus far, rumors have localized that the release will be sometime in October. Various dates such as October 7, October 12, October 15 and October 21 have all been considered.

However, contradictory rumors indicate that there will be no iPhone 5 release in 2011, and that the smartphone debuting in October will be the low cost iPhone 4S, which has been compared to the current iPhone 4.

There is also word that wireless networks T-Mobile and Sprint will carry the iPhone 5. Neither network has confirmed or denied this to date.
