iPhone 5 Release Date: China Case Manufacturers Reveal Teardrop Design

The iPhone 5 is rumored to sport a drastically new tear drop design, according to the case designs of Chinese manufacturers producing accessories for the smartphone.

But since the rumored release of the iPhone 5, skeptics have argued over whether this drastically new design was part of Apple’s actual plans or just hearsay.

The tear drop look dates back to a report published by “This is my next” in late-April, which described a 3.7-inch iPhone with edge-to-edge glass and a new shape similar to an iPod Touch or late 2010 MacBook Air.

The thick squared design of the iPhone 4 would be changed to something sleeker and lighter for the next generation.

Asian vendors quickly took the information and began to produce cases based on that tear drop look.

But that is not the whole story.

M.I.C. gadget has revealed that another iPhone 5 prototype went missing in the Shenzhen district of China.

The cases designed by the Asian manufacturers were based off of an actual iPhone model.

“This should explain why we are seeing a whole lot of iPhone cases in China today,” the publication stated.

The prototype was originally encased in an iPhone 4 body, according to the report.

Inside the body was a test model with a finalized iPhone 5 chassis sporting the tear drop design.

The test device included slightly modified iPhone 4 electronics, plus the A4 chip and the same amount of memory as Apple’s 4th generation smartphone.

Based on this information, the tear drop design could belong to the lower end, updated iPhone 4.

October 4 is hopefully the day the public will get a glimpse into Apple’s plans for a new smartphone.
