iPhone 5S vs iPhone 6 Comparison: Review of Specs, Features - Does Newer Always Mean Better?

The aging Apple iPhone 5S is already being stumped by its successor, the iPhone 6. While the iPhone 5S is still a mighty good phone in its own right, how much of an improvement can be seen in the iPhone 6? Sometimes, newer doesn't necessarily mean better.

The iPhone 5S was first released September of 2013 and is an iteration of the first iPhone 5, released 2012. The 5S had a 4.0-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a display resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. Inside is the old 32-bit A7 chipset with a dual-core 1.3GHz processor and a PowerVR G6430 GPU.

There are three storage options available for the 5S, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB all with 1GB of RAM and as per Apple device, it has no microSD card support. At the back of the phone is an 8-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash and autofocus while up front is a 1.2-megapixel snapper.

The iPhone 6 on the other hand was only released September this year and in two variants, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. The Plus is already a phablet by today's standards so to compare, the iPhone 6 will be used.

The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a display resolution of 1334 x 750 coupled with Retina Display. Inside the handset is a new 64-bit Apple A8 chipset with a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and a PowerVR GX6450 GPU.

Three storage options are available, the 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants all with 1GB of RAM. Like the iPhone 5S, there is no microSD card support. The camera still remains the rear facing 8-megapixel snapper and the front facing 1.2-megapixel one.

While the iPhone 5S started off with the iOS 7, it can be upgradable to iOS 8 while the iPhone 6 family comes out of the box with the iOS 8.
