iPhone 7 Rumored to Sport 3D Display Technology
The iPhone 6 has met some remarkable success, even breaking opening day sales records. While it's only been two months since the device's release, rumors about the next-generation iPhone is already doing its rounds in the Web. The "iPhone 7" is rumored to feature a new 3D display technology without the need to wear special 3D glasses.
There are rumors that Apple is working to create a new ecosystem of 3D hardware and software. The Cupertino company has allegedly approached its display supplier TPK to develop the screen for the iPhone 7.
While the prospect of a 3D display is still too early to ascertain, Apple has shown interest in 3D technology in the past. The Cupertino company had applied for a patent for a glass-free 3D stereoscopic display in 2008.
The technology is said to address the issues encountered with previous 3D devices, where the technology is to track the position of the user so that it renders the 3D images correctly, regardless of the user's position.
Only last year, the Cupertino company had purchased an Israel based 3D-sensor technology company PrimeSense for the price of $345 million. PrimeSense is known for producing the technology which powers the Microsoft Kinect accessory for the Xbox console. The technology creates maps of 3D environments and tracks facial expressions and body movements.
There are speculations that Apple will be releasing the next iPhone in September of 2015, following current market trend. Apple has indeed been unveiling and/or releasing their iPhones around the month of September, which is when the iPhone 6 was released.
