After 28 years, 80-year-old Philbin released a statement about his departure from the show.

“There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people,” Philbin said in a statement.

The host spoke to “The Mojo in the Morning” radio show in Detroit about the fact that he is not retiring or quitting his job of almost 30 years.

“I’m not calling it quits, you understand,” he said on the show. “I’m moving on. I’m not retiring. I’m not quitting. I’m moving on.”

Philbin also told the Detroit show that some people took the difficulty of his job for granted.

“You don’t know how difficult it is to keep a situation going on a show like that that has no writers, that has no meetings,” Philbin said. “You just go out there and you do it. I could do that because I’ve done it for 50 years, that’s the way that I like to do it. But that doesn’t mean it’s right for everybody else.”

Philbin insinuated that leaving the show may be a mistake, but he had no choice.

“Of course it’s a big mistake, but Regis is moving on.”

After Philbin’s departure, the name of the show will change to “Live! with Kelly," but will continue its current broadcasting schedule of 9 a.m. EST.
