Jim Carrey's Daughter Jane is an American Idol Hopeful

Actor Jim Carrey's daughter is among a group of San Diego American Idol hopefuls who secured a ticket to Hollywood, ultimately making it through to the next phase of the renowned singing competition.

Jane Carrey, 24, described herself as a "mom first and waitress on and off for like six years" on last night's episode.

Prior to her rendition of Bonnie Raitt's “Something to Talk About," a down to earth Carrey spoke about what it is like being associated with one of Hollywood's most famed comedian actors.

"The last name definitely helps and hurts...I feel like there's this pressure to maybe be better," Carrey explained.

"It is difficult growing up in the shadow of somebody and trying to find your place in the world...underneath this huge shadow," she said. "I guess that's also why I'm here too, just to make my place in the world," she added.

After admitting that her 50-year-old father was aware of her audition, an excited Jennifer Lopez, one of the three judges, blurted "I worked with Jim, I remember you when you were little!"

Although she appeared slightly nervous, Carrey's performance wooed the judges and landed her three nods for Hollywood. "I like the voice, I like the potential," Randy told a beaming Carrey.

"I like the sound of your voice," Lopez said before offering a few performance enhancing tips.

After sharing the news with her a small circle that presumably accompanied Carrey to her audition, she called Jim to share the news.

Her elated father, who was on speaker phone, told show producer Ryan Seacrest that he was pleased and looking forward for his "amazing" daughter to share her talent with the world.

Jim's words of encouragement eventually brought Carrey to tears, before he added, "This is going to be an exciting year!"

Also among the finalists are former Ellen reporter Ali Shields, single Mom Ashley Robles, and local mechanic Jason "Wolf" Hamlin.

Auditions took place at a retired aircraft carrier in the San Diego Harbor.
