Justin Bieber Muse: 'Christmas Cookies' Inspiration Behind New Album?

Justin Bieber has opened up about the inspiration behind his upcoming Christmas album, “Under the Mistletoe.”

While recording the album earlier this year, the singer used Christmas cookies in the studio as a source of inspiration.

“It’s different, because you’ve gotta think Christmastime. You’ve gotta think, ‘What’s at Christmas? Mistletoe, reindeer, Santa, all these things,'” said Bieber.

"Especially when it’s not Christmastime, it’s hard to really get your mind around it, but once you get into it, like, I was really thinking it was Christmastime when I was writing this album… We had Christmas cookies [in the studio],” he added.

“I was going to put out my new album soon anyways, and I was thinking, ‘It’s near Christmastime. If I’m going to release an album near Christmas, I figure maybe I’d just do a Christmas album,’” Bieber stated.

“Under the Mistletoe” will follow his smash album “My World.”

“The fans get more music, and everyone’s happy,” said the 17-year-old.

Speaking to MTV News, the star shared that he selected a few of his favorite Christmas songs for the album, along with new music by him.

“I picked ‘Silent Night,’ I picked ‘Santa [Clause Is] Coming to Town,’ because everyone loves those songs,” said Bieber. “Those are classics. They get people excited for Christmas.”

The singing heartthrob added, “And then, for songs that we wrote, we wanted to make enough new songs for people to hear new music and not just hear some classics. There’s a lot of new stuff on there.”

The music video for “Mistletoe” premieres at 7:54 p.m. EST on MTV.

“People get confused,” Bieber explained. “My song is ‘Mistletoe,’ and my album is ‘Under the Mistletoe,’ so don’t get it confused, don’t get it twisted.”
