Kamala Harris, Tim Walz ’60 Minutes’ interviews: Top 4 highlights
1. 'Longstanding problem': Harris blames Congress, Trump for border crisis
Harris blamed Congress and former President Donald Trump for the historic flood of illegal immigrants who poured over the US southern border during his administration.
“You recently visited the southern border and embraced President Biden's recent crackdown on asylum seekers,” Whitaker said. “And that crackdown produced an almost immediate and dramatic decrease in the number of border crossings. If that's the right answer now, why didn't your administration take those steps in 2021?”

Harris, whom Biden tasked with tackling the "root causes" of mass migration in 2021, suggested that the fault for the crisis lies with Trump for coming out against a border security bill earlier this year.
Harris accused Trump of being someone "who wants to run on a problem instead of fixing a problem, so he told his buddies in Congress, 'kill the bill, don't let it move forward.'"
Whitaker pushed back, noting "there was a historic flood of undocumented immigrants coming across the border the first three years of your administration" and that the number of arrivals "quadrupled" under Biden's watch.
“Was it a mistake to loosen immigration policies as much as you did?” he asked.
Harris repeatedly deflected from offering a direct answer and called it "a longstanding problem," despite Whitaker interrupting.
