Kim Kardashian Wedding: TV Star Cashes in on Divorce From Humphries?

Although many have scrutinized Kim Kardashian for promptly ending her short-lived marriage of 72 days with Kris Humphries, others have argued that the Kardashian clan may have hit the jackpot with such a controversial move.

The wedding was publicity in itself, with a lavish $10 million Montecito ceremony sponsored by the E! Entertainment network.

Many questioned if the marriage was just an attempt to cash in on the allure of wealthy nuptials, but Kardashian vigorously defended her marriage to basketball star Kris Humphries.

"I married for love. I can't believe I even have to defend this," Kardashian blogged after her divorce announcement.

Kardashian received massive public backlash after her divorce. The "No More Kardashian" petition has received over 10,000 signatures, and requests E! Entertainment to remove all Kardashian shows.

"We feel that these shows are mostly staged and place an emphasis on vanity, greed, promiscuity, vulgarity and over-the-top conspicuous consumption," Cyndy Snider, organizer of one of the petitions, said in a Yahoo TV statement.

Others argue that any publicity is good publicity for the Kardashians, who have built a profitable empire on promoting themselves.

"This divorce is just another thing that keeps people fascinated," said Elizabeth Currid-Halkett, author of "Starstruck: The Business of Celebrity."

"People want to know how the divorce plays out. They want to know if Kim will meet someone new. This family has never failed to keep things interesting," she added.

After TMZ announced it had attained documents citing Kardashian's divorce from Humphries on Monday, Oct. 31, Kardashian released a statement to on her blog, confirming the rumors.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," Kardashian said.

"I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things do not work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best," she added.

Kardashian cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for her split from spouse Humphries.

According to Us Magazine, the reality TV star continues to maintain a low profile post-divorce announcement.

Kardashian and Humphries share a prenuptial agreement, which will prove a financially wise decision, as TMZ estimated Kardashian's worth to be $35 million and Humphries' worth $8 million.

Sources claim celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser will represent Kardashian in the divorce proceedings.
