Mark Driscoll Sermons: Tells Mars Hill Congregation 'God Hates Some of You' (VIDEO)

“God hates, right now, personally, objectively, some of you,” Mars Hill Pastor Mark Driscoll told his congregation in a sermon that was simulcast online.

The sermon “Jesus Sweats Blood,” focused on respecting the wrath of God. Driscoll urged listeners to think critically about their level of commitment to Christianity. He cautioned against creating a personal version of Christianity in order to feel satisfied.

“Don't let your hippie, hacky sack Jesus be a replacement for the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords,” he told his Seattle, Wash congregation.

Driscoll spoke at length about the cup of God’s wrath.

“Jesus drank every drop of the wrath of God,” he said. “Jesus died the death that you and I should deserve.”

“You are in grave danger. You are filling your cup of wrath. If you die apart from Jesus, he will pour out full strength the full cup of that wrath on you forever,” Driscoll stated.

Understanding God’s wrath is the key to understanding God’s love, Driscoll said. People must submit to God, and recognize that sin is not a moment of weakness but the nature of human life.

Driscoll told listeners that many would struggle with the message.

“Some of you, God hates you,” he said. “Some of you, God is sick of you. God is frustrated with you. God is wearied by you. God has suffered long enough with you. He doesn't think you're cute. He doesn't think it’s funny.”

“But [understanding that God hates you] is the beginning of freedom.”

Driscoll’s style of preaching is casual but direct. He appeals to a younger crowd, both in his message and the delivery of his message, with nearly a hundred sermons posted online. Sermons are downloaded over 100,000 times every week.

The hour-long sermon had about twice as many hits on Mars Hill’s website than other sermons by Driscoll.

Over 8,000 people attended services at Mars Hill, the megachurch in Seattle where Driscoll preaches. The video below is an excerpt from a larger sermon.
