Married High School Teacher Pleads Guilty To 'Sex With 16-year-old Student' in Virginia
A married high school teacher from Virginia is has pleaded guilty to having sex with her 16-year-old student. With her confession, she could face up to six months in prison for two counts of having consensual sex with a minor.
A former history teacher Ashley Leigh Lewis Weber, 31, has admitted to having sexual relations with her teenage student in 2016 after the school year had ended. Each of the two counts carries a maximum 12-month prison sentence but the presiding judge has suspended the sentence on one of the counts.
However, prosecutors expect she will only serve a mere half of the full sentence. Such is the case with the case of many misdemeanor charges who only serve 50 percent of their prison time.
According to assistant commonwealth's attorney Stacey Davenport, the former Freeman High School teacher met the teen back in the school year of 2015-2016. She then took him to her parents' home in Henrico, where they had sex.
Weber was later charged in August by Henrico Police after they received a report of an inappropriate relationship between a juvenile and a woman. She was released on a $5,000 bond for the two misdemeanor counts and one felony charge. She was also ordered to stay with her mother during the bond period.
In addition to having sexual relations with her then-15-year-old student, Weber also admitted to using a communication device to offer sex. However, that charge was later dropped due to her pleading guilty to the other charges.
Calling out to Weber, Judge Margaret Deglau said, "This was victimisation. You are a person who could have made a great change in his life, positive change."
Deglau has ordered Weber not to contact the victim. When asked if she would like to address the court, the former teacher declined and was subsequently taken into custody after her court appearance.
Henrico Public Schools has declined to comment regarding the incident.
