Marty McFly Shoes Auctioned Off to Raise Funds for Michael J. Fox Foundation

Finally making good on one of the futuristic items featured in the "Back to the Future" series, Nike has released real-life versions of the Marty McFly sneakers featured in part two of the popular 80s movie series.

The Nike MAG shoes, sported by main "Back to the Future II" character Marty Mcfly, have been replicated and are being auctioned off on eBay’s Fashion Vault from Sept. 8 to Sept. 18.

All net proceeds from sales of the MAGs will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, so all sneaker junkies traveling to the future will be doing it for a good cause.

The organization specializes in research aimed at finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease, which Fox, the star of the "Back to the Future" series, was diagnosed with in 1991.

The foundation’s website advertises the futuristic footwear and states that the Nike MAG is identical to the shoes used in the future-based film.

"Based on an original prop used in 'Back to the Future Part II', the 2011 Nike MAG shoes have been rebuilt to the exact specifications of the originals," read a description on the website.

Every day for the next 10 days, 150 pairs of the Nike MAGs will be made available on eBay. Current bids from some pairs of the Nike MAGs top $10,000.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation is trying to meet the goal of raising $50 million for the Brin Wojcicki Challenge, which Google co-founder Sergey Brin and wife Anne Wojcicki will match.

The Fox organization has asked those bidding on the Nike MAG sneakers to do so generously in order to meet its goal.

As of Friday, bidders were apparently taking that request to heart. Current bids for some pairs of the Nike MAGs on eBay topped $10,000.

Unfortunately, no hoverboards, also featured in the 2015-based "Back to the Future II," will be offered with the Nike MAGs.
