Mary Tyler Moore: SAG Award 'Would Make Dad Happy'

The 2012 Screen Actors Guild will honor Mary Tyler Moore with the Lifetime Achievement Award on Sunday.

Taking place at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center, the awards ceremony will see that stage and screen star Moore is recognized for her work. Presenting the night's prestigious award will her her former co-star and husband, Dick Van Dyke.

"Receiving a lifetime achievement award from anybody who wants to single me out as deserving of it is a wonderful honor," said the actress speaking to Reuters. "It pleases me to know that it would make my dad awfully happy, I know that."

Moore described her husband as her "biggest fan."

"He would encourage me because it was the first time I had done any real comedy," the actress tole Reuters of Van Dyke. "And I said to Dick, 'I'm so nervous,' and he said, 'Mary, you just do what your instinct tells you and don't be afraid of moments where you think you'll look like a blubbering idiot. Just do it to the best of your ability and you're going to be fine.'"

Moore starred in the 1960's sitcom "The Dick Van Dyke Show" as Laura Petrie. Then in the 70's, the actress portrayed a 30-something professional Mary Richards on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

The 75-year-old is still active in the acting world, and recently made an appearance on "Hot in Cleveland" alongside Betty White.

Tonight's awards show is surprising influential, according to E! News, who reported that stars such as George Clooney and Meryl Streep will be winners.

The 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be presented in 15 movies and TV acting categories. Although there is no host, presenters include top celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Michelle Williams, and Owen Wilson.

The red carpet portion of the evening begins at 6 p.m. EST, and the ceremony airs live on TNT and TBS starting at 8 p.m. EST.
