Matthew West Scores Second No. 1 for 'The Motions'

The song that spurred a recent movement led by popular Christian artist Matthew West is the No. 1 single of this week, according to the Radio & Records Christian AC Monitored chart.

"The Motions" is now the second No. 1 song on West's current release, Something to Say, following "You Are Everything," which was the most played song of 2008.

The song is also continuing to change the thinking of many Christians across the nation who were challenged earlier this year by West to "avoid the trap of simply going through the motions."

To date, 1185 people have made a "Motions Resolution" on West's Web site to rise above whatever their circumstances may be, and say "I will not go through the motions."

"Every morning, I go to 'The Motions' community on my website, and read the new resolutions that people have made. I have to be honest, I am so inspired by the commitments that people are making there," says West.

According to West, it was his own struggle to rise above the lukewarm Christian life that inspired his song, "The Motions," and the campaign of the same name.

"It's so easy to live a lukewarm kind of life," says West. "I'm so glad the song seems to have struck a chord, and I hope it can continue be a reminder that life is too short to simply go through the motions."

According to Grant Hubbard, vice president of national promotions for EMI CMG, West's label group, "The Motions" is No. 1 in all demographics at many of their top stations.

"[A]nd Matthew has again reached the top of the charts by speaking into the lives of Christian radio listeners with emotion and depth," Hubbard added. "We're honored to partner with Matthew on his second No. 1 single from Something To Say."

West's third studio recording, Something To Say, was released Jan. 15, 2008, and debuted on Nielsen SoundScan's Christian Retail Chart at No. 10.

It was West's first album following his recovery from a last-option surgery on his vocal chords in 2007.
