McDonald's Employee Finds Her Stolen Car in Drive-Thru

A McDonald's employee in Washington was surprised to see her own vehicle pull up in the drive-thru lane of the restaurant. The SUV was stolen hours earlier, and the thief unknowingly drove the vehicle right back to its owner.

Virginia Maiden told ABC News that she awoke on Tuesday morning and noticed that her SUV was no longer in its normal spot. She managed to get a ride to work and was taking orders in the drive-thru lane when she spotted a very familiar SUV. Maiden knew it was hers because her McDonald's visor was in the dashboard.

"You would think whoever stole the car would say, 'I'm not going to go to McDonald's because the owner works there,'" Rebecca Guerrero, who works with Maiden, told ABC.

The suspect, Katherine York, 22, ordered ice cream along with several other items, and in a ploy to keep the vehicle in the lane so that she could call 911, Maiden told the customer that the ice cream machine was broken.

"Obviously the machine wasn't broken," Guerrero commented. "It was a decoy to stall them till the cops came."

Once the authorities arrived, they took the suspect into custody and Maiden had her vehicle back. The suspect, a woman, allegedly stole several items from JC Penney and Sears has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, but it's unknown if she will face further charges for the other thefts. A male passenger in the vehicle was released and not charged with any crime.

York currently remains in custody; no bail has been set. Maiden's co-worker, though, is amazed at the timing of the entire incident and credits Maiden with getting her own vehicle back.

"What if she [Maiden] was off? What if she was on a break and not at the window? What if she looked away … it was meant to be," Guerrero said. "It was at the right time and the right moment."
