Who said Microsoft will no longer be manufacturing Nokia phones? Despite having sold its feature phone business to Foxconn subsidiary FIH Mobile, the tech giant just launched the new Nokia 216 on Sept. 20. It's a no-frills, glove-box type phone that packs serious wattage, perfect for back-up phones or for the nontech-savvy people.
The new Microsoft Nokia 216 is currently limited in India and it costs around $37, but it may soon be available globally. It may be the last of the Nokia phones under Microsoft, which is enough cause to line up for this handset. The new Microsoft Nokia 216 may not be the new hottest smartphone, but it's packed with great specs for a basic handset. It has a 2.4-inch color LCD/QVGA with a 320 x 240 resolution. Like smartphones, this handset also sports VGA front and rear shooters at 0.3 megapixels. Each of them is paired with a LED flash.
The Microsoft Nokia 216 also runs on 16MB RAM and the Series 30+ OS. It comes with an Opera Mini Browser, Facebook and Gameloft. Even at this storage capacity, everyday essentials such as voice calls, FM Radio, MP3 and video player, and Bluetooth do not suffer. It's lightweight at 82.6 grams, while it's pretty sizeable on the hand at 13.5 millimeters. It has a maximum expandable storage capacity of 32 GB, while the Phonebook can take up to 2,000 contacts.
Features of note
If you've begun to miss the feeling of a physical keypad, then the Microsoft Nokia 216 may be for you. It has a physical alphanumeric keypad user input, with a four-way navigational key. The Nokia 216 battery wattage is a little low - 1,020 mAH - but it's got a maximum talk time of 18 hours and music playback of 47 hours.
Of course, it being a basic handset, the new Nokia 217 does not have the luxury of Wi-Fi. It does, however, pack 2G GSM between the 900 to 1,800 MHz spectrums. It even has a headphone jack!
Nokia, Lumia rumors
Microsoft, on the other hand, is still selling its Lumia 950 and 950 XL handsets as they continue to develop their Windows phones. It's rumored that they're also likely to shut down the Lumia brand in favor of a Surface type, especially with the decline of Microsoft's shares in the phone market. But even with their lackluster performance in the phone arena, they still continue to deliver high-quality phones, even one as basic as the Nokia 216.
