Mimi O'Donnell, Philip Seymour Hoffman Partner Devastated By Death; Family Statement Released (PHOTO)

Mimi O'Donnell, the long-time girlfriend of Hollywood actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been left devastated by his sudden death on Sunday after his body was found in his New York City apartment. O'Donnell reportedly screamed in despair after being told the news of Hoffman's death, and the family later released a statement saying they were "devastated" by the tragic news.

Hoffman, 46, and O'Donnell have been a couple since 1999 and have three children together. Son, Cooper Alexander, is their eldest child, and he was born in March 2003. The couple's two daughters, Tallulah and Willa, were born in November 2006 and October 2008.

However, their family will be left devastated by the actor's sudden death on Sunday. Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment, with reports claiming the cause of death was an apparent drug overdose.

A source has told ShowBizSpy: "Mimi is inconsolable. He had his problems, but she thought he was on the road to recovery following his recent rehab stint."

The source added, "Mimi already had a tough few days, after the recent hoax that claimed Philip had died."

In 2013 Hoffman admitted to struggling with drug addiction. He had been clean for more than two decades, but told TMZ last year that he had checked himself into rehab after beginning to turn to prescription pills again. He also admitted to suffering with heroin use.

According to reports, Hoffman's body was found on Sunday with a needle sticking out of his arm.

Hoffman's family has released a statement saying: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support."

The statement added, "This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving."

Hoffman featured in the recent Hunger Games film alongside Jennifer Lawrence, and also won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 film, "Capote." He received three Academy Award nominations as Best Supporting Actor, and also received three Tony Award nominations for his work in the theater.

Hoffman began his acting career in 1991, and is known for appearing in such films as Scent of a Woman (1992), Twister (1996), Boogie Nights (1997), The Big Lebowski (1998), Magnolia (1999), The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Almost Famous (2000), Capote (2005), The Savages (2007), Moneyball (2011) and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013). He was also set to star in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (in post-production), and Part 2 (filming).
