Miraculous Power of Prayer: Dr. Oz and Joel Osteen Interview Patients to Determine Prayer Effectiveness

Joel Osteen sat down Thursday on Dr. Oz’s Emmy-Award winning show to talk about the power of prayer and if it has the potential to physically heal people, and both men agreed that it was possible.

Two of the most powerful figures on television discussed real hospital cases featuring people who prayed for a medical miracle and got one, according to Health Body Daily.

Dr. Oz asked some hard-hitting questions of Osteen, trying to analyze if the power of prayer is strictly contained to one’s mind or if it could bring miracles and heal people who seem to be beyond the help of current science. As an example, the host brought up a stage 4 cancer diagnoses and asked the televangelist if prayer had any power over a serious and life-threatening condition.

“It’s amazing, it doesn’t always happen, I experienced it first hand in 1981, my mother was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and she was given a few weeks to live there was no treatment back then and we couldn’t do anything except pray. Here 30 years later my mother is healthy and strong, there is no medical explanation,” said Osteen.

The pastor of Lakewood Church, who preaches to millions of viewers weekly in his televised sermons, continued: “When you pray, you can say, ‘God, help this pill to work, help this medicine to heal me.’”

The host shared that in his own experience he also found prayer works, but questioned whether having a connection with God really is necessary to experience the benefits. Osteen agreed that positive thinking could always help people regardless, but he also believes “the ultimate connection is when you are connected to the creator of the universe.”

Two former patients who experienced the power of prayer were invited onto the show to share their unique stories. A woman identified as “Anna,” a member of Osteen’s Texas church, said that doctors found three tumors on her breast, and that she had to go through three types of intensive chemotherapy.

She was confined to the hospital for very long periods, and when her fever started going up one night and she feared the worst, she turned to prayer. The nurse who came in the next morning reported that something miraculous happened and revealed lab results that showed Anna’s white cell count had reverted to normal. Anna has been cancer-free for eight years now.

Another woman, Angel, shared that she faced losing her leg to an amputation after it was crushed under a SUV. She prayed for eight months before she claims God stepped in, removed all her pain, and saved her leg.

The two men concluded that prayer is indeed very important, as is belief in yourself and God.
