Saints (5-5, 1-2 NFC South) will visit Candlestick Park to battle the 49ers (7-2-1, 2-0-1 NFC West). The big question is whether 49ers will have quarterback Colin Kaepernick back in Sunday's game. Kaepernick played his first career start Monday night against the Chicago Bears and surprised everyone with his impressive performance.

Kaepernick, filling in for Alex Smith who suffered a concussion on Nov. 11, was not expected to fare that well against veteran Bears QB Jason Campbell, who was playing in place of Jay Cutler – who was also out with a concussion. Despite the low expectation, Kaepernick astounded everyone and led the 49ers to a 32-7 win against Chicago, known for putting up a strong defense.

But 49ers starting QB Alex Smith took the final "contact test" Friday and is expected to be cleared to play, so fans are waiting to hear official word from the team whether Kaepernick or Smith will be on the field in the game against the Saints.

"Alex went through his final test today and will be cleared tomorrow, if there's no symptoms," 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh said Friday, according to San Francisco Chronicle. "And it's been good. He hasn't had any symptoms since Tuesday. So that's a real positive."

Sources tell ESPN that Kaepernick will start, but Coach Jim Harbaugh is staying mum.

"We could set our watch here for another 15 minutes and you could keep asking questions and the answers will still be the same," Harbaugh said Friday, ESPN reported. "We feel like there's no competitive advantage for us to release that information. We just do not get into what the role's going to be, how we're going to use them, and the specifics of that. It's unorthodox. So be it. That's the way we are going to go about it."

Less than 24 hours before the Saints vs. 49er game, there is still no official word who will start.
