Nokia Lumia 930 vs Samsung Galaxy S5 Comparison, Review of Specs: Which Smartphone is Better?

The holiday season is approaching and people might be in the market for new smartphones and with the numerous releases by various phone manufacturers, it might be difficult to choose. However, while some might choose the newer and more expensive releases, others might just be looking for relatively cheaper alternatives.

While mid-year releases are still expensive in their own respect, they might just catch the eyes of those looking for a fairly new phone at a lesser price tag. For instance, the Nokia Lumia 930 flagship and the Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship. The former was only released July this year while the latter on April.

A run-down on both handsets; first, the Lumia 930.

The 930 has a 5.0-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a full HD display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is further augmented by a ClearBlack display and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Inside the handset is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a quad-core 2.2GHz processor and an Adreno 330 GPU.

Only a 32GB variant exists and has 2GB of RAM. The handset doesn't have microSD card support however. One of the better known qualities of the Lumia line is its impressive camera. The 930 has a 20-megapixel snapper with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, and dual-LED flash. Up front is a 1.2-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S5 on the other hand has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a full HD display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is also protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Inside the handset is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with a quad-core 2.5GHz processor and an Adreno 330 GPU.

The S5 has two storage options, the 16GB and 32GB variants both with 2GB of RAM and microSD card support of up to 128GB. The camera is 16-megapixels strong with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. Up front is a 2-megapixel snapper.

The S5 is run by Google's Android Kitkat OS while the Lumia 930 runs on Windows Phone 8.1.
