Thousands of people came together this weekend to celebrate the 240th year of America's Independence at Fellowship Church's "Freedom Experience" in Grapevine, Texas.

Every year Pastor Ed Young Jr.'s Fellowship Church hosts a series of events to celebrate the July 4th holiday and to honor fallen soldiers and their families' sacrifice.

"Our church has a deep appreciation for our nation, the freedom we have, and all those who fight to provide it," church spokesman Andy Boyd told The Christian Post on Tuesday.

"One of the key elements in this year's experience was a prayer for our nation, led by Pastor Ed Young. The prayer focused on thanking God for what He has blessed us with and asking for His hand of guidance and direction as our country moves forward."

Speaking about what he wanted people to reflect on following this year's Freedom Experience, Boyd said he hoped "people left feeling a sense of appreciation for the freedom we have — not only here in our nation, but in eternity through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

"For those who have not experienced the ultimate freedom, our prayer is that they understood the sacrifice that has been made on their behalf by Jesus Christ, and that they came into a relationship with Him," he added. "For those who have stepped over that line of faith, we hope they left with an understanding of their responsibility to serve others and with a passion to be a light to those around them."

Boyd also told CP that the Freedom Experience event corresponded with the beginning of a sermon series by Young known as "At the Movies."

"The movie for this weekend was the blockbuster 'American Sniper,' and Pastor Ed's teaching focused on the power of sacrifice and the need for each of us to serve others as a reflection of what Jesus has done for us," Boyd said.

According to Fellowship Church's website, the "At the Movies" sermon series will focus on other blockbuster films that hold great meaning for audiences.

"It's one of society's most iconic venues: the silver screen. Every day millions of people flock to the movies for entertainment. Others go for education. But how often do we look to Hollywood for real life lessons?" explained Fellowship Church.

"In this series, Ed Young will show us how the movies can actually reveal some of the most powerful truths that can change our lives — both now and forever. Don't miss this opportunity to discover the passion, purpose, and plan that God has in store for your life through some of today's biggest hits!"
