'Person Of Interest' Season 5 Release Date News Update: Show To Return This Spring, Says CBS Boss

Following "Person of Interest" executive producer J.J. Abrams' comment last Saturday that the fifth season of "POI" may be its last, CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller has responded to questions about the show's fate, rebutting Abrams' announcement and saying that he has no idea if Season 5 will be the series' farewell run.

"No, we haven't aired the show yet. I'm not sure," Geller told reporters during the Television Critics Association's press tour in Pasadena, CA on Tuesday.

"We ordered 13 episodes, we hope to get them on this spring," the CBS executive revealed. "That's what we're targeting right now," he said.

Geller also tried to give fans something to look forward to, saying, "[Showrunners Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman] have planned a terrific season." He added: "Can't wait for the fans of the show to see it. It'll be a real treat for viewers."

He also spoke about Sarah Shahi's return in the next season of "Person of Interest," telling fans: "You can look forward to it with great gusto. She's amazing."

As for Abrams' statement that Nolan and Plageman have wrapped up Season 5 with a final episode that could also serve as a series finale, Geller said, "I think it could function as series and season finale."

Though the CBS boss couldn't confirm whether or not "Person of Interest" has a future beyond Season 5, he did say with certainty when it will air this year. Shooting down suggestions that the sci-fi crime drama series will be aired in the off-season, Geller said, "It won't be held for the summer."

"We will air 'Person of Interest' this spring," he confirmed.

"Person of Interest" stars Jim Caviezel as former CIA agent Reese and Michael Emerson as billionaire software whiz Finch. The two work together as a vigilante duo aiming to stop crimes before they are carried out.

The fifth season of "Person of Interest" is expected to air before the end of spring, which is Sunday, June 19.
