'Pokemon Z' Release Date: Pokemon Rainbow Coming Out on 20th Anniversary?
"Pokemon Z" may not be released anytime soon, as recent rumors say the company is planning to release "Pokemon Rainbow" instead to mark their 20th anniversary.
So far, the only signs that the Pokemon Company is commemorating its 20th anniversary are its Super Bowl ad and the release of the original Pokemon titles on the 3DS. Fans have been expecting "Pokemon Z" to be released later this year, but it seems they will see "Pokemon Rainbow" first, according to the Bitbag.
Based on information leaked by NintenGen's MetalDave, a Nintendo of America marketing staff has claimbed that the Pokemon Company will launch "Pokemon Rainbow" this year to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The employee, whose name was not divulged, also gave MetalDave a copy of the company's marketing budget and scheduling for this year for the Wii U and 3DS, the report relays.

Based on the said report, the company is allotting $34.5 million to market the Wii U and $10 million is dedicated to "Legend of Zelda" Wii U. The 3DS, on the other hand, will have a $56.25 million budget.
Under the 3DS, a project code-named Niji was mentioned. The word Niji translates to "rainbow." The code name is reportedly a confirmation that the game will be launched as a Pokemon 20th anniversary game, the report explains.
The "Pokemon Z" game was initially rumored to be unveiled during the GDC 2016 alongside "Pokemon GO." However, with no real confirmation of the game, fans have almost lost hope that it will ever become a reality, Crossmap reports.
This is not the first time that "Pokemon Rainbow" came out in rumors. A few years ago, before the Nintendo Direct in January 2013, the game had already been the topic of some reports. GoNintendo says the game will be released with a Wii U application. It will also reportedly include most of the old and new Pokemons.
"Pokemon Z" was earlier rumored to be the successor of the X and Y series, which came out in 2013. Now that news about "Pokemon Rainbow" has emerged, it is highly unlikely that fans will see the awaited game. The code-named project will more likely take the place of "Pokemon Z."
