The Samsung Galaxy S2 is being released in AT&T stores nationwide Sunday October 2. The greatly anticipated launch is sure to have AT&T customers lining up to get their hands on the already globally-popular smartphone.

The launch also comes just days prior to the unveiling of the next generation iPhone, rumored to be the new iPhone 5 Apple is holding an event Oct. 4, which analysts are claiming will see the unveiling of either the iPhone 5 or an upgraded iPhone 4.

Samsung’s fastest selling new smartphone will reportedly sell for $199.99 with a two-year contract on AT&T.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has already launched in other regions throughout the world to rave reviews, with many analysts boasting how the smartphone is not a competitor for the hugely popular iPhone 4, but is ready to compete and even beat the as-yet-unreleased iPhone 5.

PCMag’s mobile analyst Sascha Segan said the phone was the “finest Android smartphone available today,” and has AT&T customers waiting in great expectation for the “iPhone killer’s” release.

In his review he wrote, "The Galaxy S II is the fastest Android device I've ever used, with the best screen, the best camera, and the latest version of Android software. It easily makes the cut for our lists of The Best Android Phones and The Best Unlocked Phones."

The device has already been released on the Sprint network on Sept. 16.

It features Samsung's Exynos 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of internal memory, a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, and a 10 percent larger battery than the first-generation model. It also runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS along with the latest version of TouchWiz.

AT&T's version of the Galaxy S2 features a smaller 4.3 Super AMOLED Plus touch screen than the Sprint’s 4.5 inch version.
