Samuel Rodriguez Hopes to Meld Visions of Billy Graham, Martin Luther King Jr. at First 'Una Voz' (One Voice) Con
A group of renowned Christian leaders led by National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference President Rev. Samuel Rodriguez plan to meet at the first Una Voz (One Voice) convention in San Diego later this month to address issues most important to the Latino evangelical community.
"There is no better time to lay the groundwork and work toward reconciling the vertical and horizontal planes of the Christian message," Rodriguez said in a statement about the two-day conference on April 29-30. "We want to blend sanctification with service, conviction with compassion, the image of God with the habits of Christ, holiness and humility, John 3:16 and Matthew 25, and the prophetic with the practical."
The Una Voz conference will be NHCLC's will be the first major gathering where Rodriguez will also seek to reconcile evangelist Billy Graham's message of salvation with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s, march of prophetic activism, as he is known to do with his advocacy efforts.
The NHCLC leads over 16 million of Hispanic born-again Christ followers by providing leadership, networking, fellowship, strategic partnerships and public policy advocacy platforms in seven areas: life, family, great commission, stewardship, education, youth and justice.
During the conference, pastors and leaders will hear from speakers including Luis Palau, Erwin McManus, Miles McPherson, Sergio DeLaMora, Larry Acosta, and Glen Burris. In addition, contemporary Christian music artists Ingrid Rosario and Danilo Montero will lead worship.
While the Hispanic church community considers several issues such as immigration as one of its main concerns, the conference will focus on topics related to family values, education, compassionate evangelism, and the future of the Hispanic Church.
As the largest Latino Christian organization in America, the NHCLC has become a prominent voice for more than 40,000 evangelical congregations throughout 52 denominations. However, event organizers believe the church as a whole "has yet to find its voice as a unified and effective segment of today's culture."
"Research continues to show that Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of the church in the United States. With that fact comes a great opportunity and a great responsibility," said Rodriguez.
