Seth MacFarlane Splits From 'Game of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke

Seth MacFarlane has ended his relationship with the "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke just weeks after praising the actress.

The "Family Guy" creator was first spotted with Clarke last September, but the pair has evidently succumbed to long distance.

"They are no longer dating," a source told E! News. "It was really a location challenge. She has been in Europe shooting 'Game of Thrones' and he is based in California, so it was hard to make it work despite the distance. They have remained friends."

The break up news arrives after MacFarlane received criticism over jokes used during his run as host of the Oscar's earlier this year. While "Family Guy" creator is known to use sharp humor, some said that the TV series' creator crossed the line with crude jokes about female actresses.

Ahead of the mixed reception of hosting the 2013 Academy Awards, MacFarlane praised his then-girlfriend while speaking to Entertainment Weekly.

"[Clarke] is an incredibly kind, supremely talented person and one of the hardest-working people I have ever met," said the "Ted" writer and director.

MacFarlane went on to explain the challenges of dating in Hollywood, citing paparazzi as a problem.

"It's a pain in the a-- because if you date, at a certain point you're in a relationship and at a certain point you're playing the field," said the actor. "It becomes this thing of trying to find places where you can have some privacy, where you're not going to be accosted by people and suddenly linked to someone as if you're in a serious relationship."

Meanwhile, Clarke, 25, is swiftly becoming a top star with HBO's hit medieval-fantasy series "GOT" in which she portrays Daenerys Targaryen. The English actress also stars in the Broadway adaptation of Truman Capote's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" as Holly Golightly.

Season three of "Game of Thrones" starts on HBO at 9 p.m. EST Sunday, March 29.
