'The Affair' Season 3 Air Date, Cast Updates, Spoilers: New Love Interests for Whitney, Noah and Alison?

New cast members will jump on the murky lives of the characters of "The Affair" Season 3. TVLine reported that Jonathan Cake ("Desperate Housewives") will be joining the series as Whitney Solloway's (Julia Goldani Telles) boss and new love interest, following the death of former paramour Scotty Lockhart (Colin Donnell).

According to TVLine, Cake's character, Furkat, is a Brooklyn-based photographer with a "polarizing" attitude. We could only assume this bad-boy attitude is what eventually ensnares the daughter of Helen Solloway (Maura Tierney) and Noah Solloway (Dominic West). And if you're wondering why Whitney could have moved on from Scotty's death so quickly, don't worry - "The Affair" Season 3 will pick up three years after the tragedy.

A new love interest for Whitney in the "The Affair" would be an interesting plot device. She's largely remained the series' most confusing and ill-drawn character. She's even earned the sobriquet "Demon Daughter," which is exactly what it sounds like. Having a brash beau could perhaps help her taper off some of her edge.

How Furkat would be received in the Solloway family

Like the late Scotty, Furkat could eventually get into the crosshairs of Whitney's parents. Avid viewers of "The Affair" would recall that Scotty had impregnated Whitney, infuriating both parents. He was later on killed in Season 2 in a car accident.

Noah took responsibility for his death in the season finale, although that part is not entirely true. "The Affair" star Maura Tierney had previously talked about how Scotty's loss was actually a collective fault: Noah wouldn't drive, Alison pushed him, Helen was inebriated. Season 3 would find the characters dealing and coping with the consequences of this tragedy, and how this affects them psychologically, Tierney said.

Other new characters, love interests

Cake is not the only new member of the captivating Showtime series about a complicated extramarital affair. Guy Burnet ("Ray Donovan") will also be joining "The Affair" as Mike Cornwall, a recurring character. Cornwall is described as a graduate student and campus "Lothario" (a womanizer/playboy in plain English).

It's currently unclear how he plays into the show's regular characters, but he's expected to cross paths with Noah Solloway. BAFTA award-winning French actress Irene Jacob is also set to join "The Affair" as Juliette Le Gall, who might also be a new love interest for the philandering husband (Seriously, Noah? How many women do you need in your life?).

According to SpoilerTV, Le Gall will help him "process a trauma from his past," likely referring to Scotty's death and his indirect implication in the crime. Could the two newcomers pose serious threats to Noah and Alison's (Ruth Wilson) relationship?

Watch out for "The Affair" Season 3 premiere on Sunday, Nov. 20, 10 p.m, on Showtime.
