Dobbs draft opinion leaked – May 2, 2022

Nearly two months before the final Dobbs decision would be officially released, an unknown party leaked a draft majority opinion to Politico, which published the document on May 2.

The draft opinion, which was authored by Justice Samuel Alito, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, involved the Supreme Court overturning Roe in a 5-4 decision.

Although both Politico and the Supreme Court stressed that the draft could be changed extensively, the leak spurred numerous protests and a wave of vandalism against churches and pro-life organizations.

Meanwhile, concerned that the Supreme Court would bow to public pressure, some pro-life groups urged the Supreme Court to go ahead and release the final opinion at once.
