Tornado in Socorro Co New Mexico - Warnings Issued (VIDEO)

The National Weather Service has reported that a tornado has hit Socorro County.

It is believed that the tornado touched ground at about 1.45 p.m. and various media sources are reporting eye witness footage being recorded showing a tornado in Socorro County at about that time.

At about 2.30 p.m. officials from the weather service issued a tornado warning for central Socorro County. That warning later expired but it has also been reported that southeast New Mexico is under severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. local time.

Winds of more than 70 miles per hour were reported from a storm about 8 miles west of Belen, and that storm was reportedly moving southeast.

Other reports have shown a Doppler radar image showing a severe thunderstorm, which weather analysts say could produce a tornado over central Socorro.

Those in the weather warning regions are being asked to be vigilant and to stay away from windows and doors.
